Ink is looking for an enthusiastic, confident and hard-working Deputy Editor to work on b.inspired, the inflight travel magazine of Brussels Airlines. Based at Ink’s London office, the Deputy Editor will assist the Editor in creating a compelling monthly print magazine that best exposes the destinations on the Brussels Airlines’ network.

Joining a small but dedicated editorial team, this is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and driven individual with irreproachable journalism skills to step up into a role that will be equally demanding and rewarding. Knowledge of Belgium is a plus and a passion for travel essential.

The ideal candidate will

  • Have a minimum two years experience working as deputy or assistant editor on a print magazine, ideally with a focus on travel, culture or lifestyle
  • Have a passion for travel and knowledge of industry trends –knowledge of Belgium is a plus
  • Be experienced in researching original story ideas, interviewing and writing front of book stories and longer features
  • Have excellent client management skills and experience
  • Have outstanding writing and editing skills - knowledge of Flemish or French is a plus
  • Be efficient in managing production workflows and working to tight deadlines
  • Be a hard-working, ideas-driven team player who stays calm under pressure
  • Have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Have strong organisational skills

Responsibilities will include

  • Assisting the Editor in the day-to-day production of the monthly print magazine on time and within budget
  • Overseeing a number of sections including client pages
  • Researching strong, topical content ideas for short and long-form stories that are on brand and original
  • Commissioning freelancer writers and formulating clear strong briefs
  • Writing short and long form articles
  • Assisting with picture research
  • Liaising with the design team to help brainstorm and visualise exciting story treatments
  • Establishing a network of solid international travel journalists
  • Covering for the Editor when required
  • Liaising with the client on an almost daily basis
  • Travelling to conduct stories
