30.6 million travel journeys are about to happen – for this, we give thanks
For our NYC and Miami offices it means a well-earned break from their award-winning year, but for the airlines Thanksgiving is their biggest moment. More that 3 million people are expected to fly on ONE day alone on November 25th. It’s a huge number of people or “captive audience who like to consume” as I overheard someone calling them last week.
Such is Thanksgivings’ increased importance in global society today, the phrase “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” have become part of the worldwide vernacular. People now routinely part with their hard-earned cash in big ways in November and December. It’s clearly a time to spend, spend, spend as well as a time to travel, travel, travel! It is estimated that 75% of American consumers plan to shop at some point over this week-long Thanksgiving period, spending on average $429 on products and services ranging from electronics, appliances, jewellery, and clothing.
We are seeing that more and more people are taking a week or 10-day vacation over this period and really taking advantage of this time off. Dream holidays and positive experiences are on the up, with the latest statistics showing significant growth in transatlantic travel and a real uptick in the consumption of video, especially when it's used in connection with the magazine.
